The Problem
Day 1

Bill will show how chronic mental stress, (e.g., guilt, resentment, unresolved grief, feeling driven, worry, over-analysis, investment in what others think about us, and frustration related to the inability to control others’ behavior) leads to the chronic activation of the body’s emergency stress response. This response is designed to be called upon for up to 30 minutes to assist us to survive life-threatening emergencies.

When prolonged, this response manifests in massive shifts in hormones, a powerful inflammatory reaction and reallocation of internal resources, such as the immune system, away from their usual function of ensuring growth, health and optimal functioning.

The body alerts us to chronic activation of the stress response through progressive internal feelings of dis-ease and physical symptoms. If these symptoms are not understood as helpful alarms, people can get caught in a reactive cycle of thought and progressive physical deregulation and “illness” (i.e., a louder alarm). Without sufficient understanding of the Principles as a source of their experience, people often get frightened or upset and fall into habitual unhealthy and even self destructive behaviors in an effort to alleviate their feelings of dis-ease.

When people feel better they act healthier and are guided more by the wisdom of Mind.

The Solution
Day 2

Linda Pettit will be joining us virtually on Day 2 to do the morning session and to accompany Bill in the afternoon Q & A.

An incremental understanding of Mind, the formless energy that uses our brain, is both preventative (a vaccine) and curative.

Mind, the spiritual intelligence behind life, is always guiding us. It is the source of the healing power of love, the force behind spiritual and psychological health, which promotes optimal physical health.

When life brings challenge, difficulty and pain we often realize that the personal thinking we do with our brains does not have all the answers. Surrendering to the unknown can quiet our thinking. In this quieter state, the veil between the physical and spiritual thins, making it easier for us to notice Mind’s presence in and around us. Harmonizing with the power of Mind allows us to find beauty, meaning and grace; to experience our unbroken wholeness, no matter what we are going through.

Being aware of this formless spiritual intelligence produces an internal experience of life that is gentler, more joyful, more loving, and more present.

This leads to a higher level of emotional, psychological and physical health.

This health is incrementally independent of past painful experience, present challenges, and future uncertainty.

About Your Presenters
Dr. Bill Pettit

Bill Pettit has shared the Three Principles within his psychiatric practice for more than 35 years. Bill was mentored personally for over 26 years by Sydney Banks, and his direct experience with Syd’s teaching closely informs his work. His most recent speaking and coaching work has focused on overcoming trauma, and the understanding that there is just one cause—and one cure—for mental illness. Bill is board-certified in psychiatry and holds an M.D. from University of Illinois College of Medicine and a B.A. from Creighton University, and has been previously board-certified in mind-body medicine, and twice certified in addiction medicine. He presently holds an appointment as Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Creighton University School of Medicine. Bill also served as a physician in the United States Navy for more than 9 years, including 3 years as a Navy Flight Surgeon and 3 years as Chief of Psychiatry of the Navy Nuclear Submarine base at Groton, Connecticut.

Since 1983 Dr. Pettit has been a student and sharer of the Three Principles, presenting at many national and international programs and conferences, and consulting clients, individuals and organizations both locally and abroad.

Bill and his wife, Linda, now live in Phoenix, Arizona, where Bill continues to practice psychiatry two mornings a week, and devoting the rest of his time and energy sharing the Three Principles through as many avenues as possible.

Dr. Linda Pettit

Linda Pettit’s recent work with the Three Principles has focused on overcoming trauma and finding wisdom for moving gracefully through transformative change. She often works with women, couples, mental health professionals, and coaches, utilizing her 35+ years of clinical experience and 12+ years sharing the Three Principles, to inform the spiritual nature of her work. Linda has an Ed.D. in Counseling Psychology from West Virginia University, an M.A. in Counselor Education from Siena Heights University, and B.A. in Journalism from Michigan State University. Her mental health career has included work in addictions, criminal justice, community agency (child and adult), private practice and academic settings. Most recently, she served as director of a counselor education program and dean of a graduate college. Currently, Linda is licensed as a psychologist in Michigan.

Since learning about the Three Principles, Linda, both alone and with her husband, Bill, has offered speaking, practitioner training and consulting internationally to individuals, couples, and groups in business, academia, mental health and the public.

Linda lives with Bill in Phoenix, Arizona and spends summers in Hastings, Minnesota. Together, Bill and Linda enjoy the company of five children and their significant others, and nine beautiful grandchildren ranging in age from 8 months to 19 years.
